Bottle gourd cooks with cumin, ginger and only a few drops of oil. It is an everyday sabzi. It does not replace diabetes medicine and it is not a blood-sugar treatment.

Important: this remedy is only a supportive home measure. Keep taking any medicine your doctor has prescribed, monitor your readings, and consult your doctor before adding anything new.

About bottle gourd sabzi with little oil

Taste a raw piece before you cook. If the bottle gourd is bitter, throw the whole gourd away. Bitter bottle gourd is not safe. Cook the mild gourd with cumin and ginger until soft, using only a few drops of oil.

Serve it as the vegetable on the plate, beside the dal and the grain you already planned. A lighter sabzi is still just food. It is not a reason to change a dose.

Ingredients

  • One small bottle gourd
  • A pinch of cumin
  • A small piece of ginger
  • A few drops of oil

How to prepare

  1. Taste a raw bit of bottle gourd and discard the whole gourd if it is bitter. Peel and chop the rest.
  2. Cook it with cumin, chopped ginger and a few drops of oil until soft.

How to use

  • Eat a serving as the sabzi at lunch or dinner.
  • Keep the oil at a few drops. Do not finish with a heavy tadka.
  • Eat it with your planned roti or rice, not as the only food of the day.

Helpful habits

  • Cover the pan so the gourd softens in its own steam.
  • Salt at the end, and keep it modest.

Precautions

  • Bitter bottle gourd must be discarded, not spiced and eaten. This does not replace diabetes medicine and doses must not be changed.
  • More oil does not make this a stronger habit. This does not replace diabetes medicine and doses must not be changed.
  • Do not change a dose because the sabzi was light. This does not replace diabetes medicine and doses must not be changed.
