Warm Sesame Oil Champi with Curry Leaves
Sesame oil warmed with curry leaves is pressed into the scalp with the fingertips and shampooed out the same day.

Warm black sesame oil champi at home
This champi uses sesame oil, the kind often pressed from black sesame, with curry leaves warmed in it until the oil smells leafy. Strain the leaves out, wait until the oil is only pleasantly warm, and work it over the scalp with the pads of the fingers, not the nails.
The oil stays on the hair and skin only. Wash it out with a mild shampoo the same day. Do not leave it overnight and do not swallow it. A slow massage can ease a tight, dry feeling. It is not medicine for a painful scalp, patchy hair loss, or infection.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 8 to 10 fresh curry leaves
- 1 extra teaspoon sesame oil if the hair is long
How to prepare
- Warm the curry leaves in sesame oil on the lowest heat for a few minutes, then turn off the flame and strain the leaves out.
- Cool the sesame oil until it feels gently warm on the wrist, never hot.
How to use
- Part the hair and press the warm sesame oil onto the scalp with your fingertips for about ten minutes.
- If the lengths feel dry, smooth only the oil left on your hands over them.
- Shampoo the oil out the same day so it does not stay on the scalp.
Helpful habits
- Use an old towel. Sesame oil can mark pillow covers and collars.
- Once a week is plenty. Adding more oil does not make the champi more useful.
Precautions
- Do not use hot oil. Test a drop on the inner arm and skip this if the skin stings or reddens.
- Keep sesame oil out of the eyes. Do not oil skin that is cut, burned, or infected.
- This is an external wash-out habit, not medicine for hair loss or scalp disease.
Frequently asked questions
Should the curry leaves stay in the hair?
- No. Warm them in the sesame oil, then strain them out so bits do not cling to the scalp.
Can the sesame oil stay on overnight?
- No. Wash it out the same day. It is for the scalp only and is not meant to be left in.
How often should this champi be done?
- About once a week. Skip it if the scalp feels sore or irritated.
