A few drops of coconut oil on the crown

A few drops of coconut oil are massaged on the crown before sleep. The amount stays small, and the oil must not reach the eyes. This is not a treatment for hair loss or sleeplessness.

A plain glass bowl of coconut oil and a small steel spoon with a few drops, set on a cotton cloth in a kitchen.

Only a few drops on the crown

The crown here means the top of the head, not the forehead and not the face. Warm a few drops of coconut oil between the fingers if the oil has set, then massage lightly. A handful of oil will run toward the brows, which is how it reaches the eyes.

Wash the hands afterward. Oil left on the fingers is easy to rub into the eyes later. Skip the habit if the scalp is cut, infected, or already irritated. The massage does not treat sleeplessness, headache, or hair loss.

Ingredients

  • A few drops of coconut oil
  • The same coconut oil, warmed only if it has set solid
  • No second oil mixed into the coconut oil

How to prepare

  1. If the coconut oil is solid, warm a few drops until they feel lukewarm, not hot.
  2. Part the hair at the crown so the oil meets skin, and keep a towel on the shoulders.

How to use

  • Massage only a few drops on the top of the head before sleep.
  • Keep the oil away from the forehead line so it cannot run into the eyes.
  • Wash your hands before you touch your face or lie down.

Helpful habits

  • Lukewarm oil spreads with less rubbing than cold solid oil.
  • A small amount stays put better than a shiny coating over the whole scalp.

Precautions

  • Keep coconut oil out of the eyes. If it gets in, rinse with plain water.
  • Do not use it on a cut, infected, or burning scalp.
  • This massage is not a treatment for sleeplessness, headache, or hair loss.

Frequently asked questions

How much coconut oil is used?

Only a few drops on the crown. A palmful is more than this habit needs and is more likely to run.

What if the oil nears the eyes?

Stop and keep it out of the eyes. Wipe the skin and rinse the eyes with plain water if oil gets in.

Is head oil a treatment for poor sleep?

No. It is a light evening massage, not a treatment for sleeplessness.
