Short Tulsi and Pepper Kadha

Five tulsi leaves and two peppercorns simmered with a slice of ginger for five minutes, then sipped warm.

A short tulsi pepper kadha

This kadha stays short on purpose. Five tulsi leaves, two peppercorns, and one slice of ginger simmer for five minutes, then you stop. Homes drink a warm cup like this on a stuffy evening. It is not a strong extract and it does not cure a cold or a chest infection.

One small cup is enough. Do not boil it down until it turns harsh. Pepper can bother an acidic stomach, so skip the cup if it burns. A cough that lasts beyond a few days, fever, or hard breathing needs a doctor.

Ingredients

  • 5 fresh tulsi leaves
  • 2 black peppercorns
  • 1 thin slice of ginger
  • 1 cup water

How to prepare

  1. Rinse the tulsi leaves and crush the black pepper lightly.
  2. Simmer tulsi, black pepper, and ginger in the water for five minutes, then strain.

How to use

  • Sip one warm cup slowly in the evening.
  • Do not boil the kadha down into a harsh concentrate.
  • If cough or cold feelings last beyond a few days, see a doctor.

Helpful habits

  • Fresh tulsi is plenty. If you only have dried leaf, use a small pinch, not a handful.
  • Add nothing else the first time, so you can judge the heat of the pepper.

Precautions

  • This does not cure a cold, flu, or chest infection.
  • Pepper can irritate the stomach. Skip it if you have acidity or a raw mouth.
  • A cough beyond a few days, high fever, or shortness of breath needs a doctor.

Frequently asked questions

How long should the kadha boil?

About five minutes. Longer boiling only makes it harsher, not more useful.

How many cups in a day?

One small cup is enough.

Can this clear a cold?

No. It is a warm evening sip, not a cure. A lasting cough needs a doctor.
