Ginger–jaggery tea for period cramps
A warm cup of ginger tea sweetened with a little jaggery, paired with a hot water bag, is a comforting traditional measure for mild period cramps.

Ingredients
- A 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, crushed
- A small piece of jaggery (gur)
- A pinch of ajwain (optional)
- 1½ cups water
How to prepare
- Boil the ginger (and ajwain) in the water for 5–7 minutes.
- Strain, stir in the jaggery until dissolved, and drink warm.
How to use
- One cup, once or twice a day, on the first days of your period.
- Rest, keep the lower abdomen warm with a hot water bag, and try gentle stretches.
Precautions
- Skip ginger if you have heavy bleeding or acidity, as it is heating.
- People with diabetes should leave out the jaggery.
- Severe pain, very heavy bleeding, bleeding between periods, or pain that stops daily activities should be checked by a gynaecologist.
