Home remedies for frizzy hair: coconut oil pre-wash, curd–aloe mask and cool rinses
Humid monsoon days, hard water and heat styling make hair puff up and feel rough. These home remedies for frizzy hair add moisture and smooth the hair cuticle with a coconut oil pre-wash, a weekly curd–aloe mask, cool final rinses and gentler drying.

Why hair frizzes
Frizz happens when the outer layer of the hair (cuticle) is lifted and the strand absorbs moisture from the air unevenly. Dryness, bleaching, heat tools, rough towelling and humidity all add to it. Curly and wavy hair frizzes more easily because natural oils travel down the strand less.
Ayurveda links rough, dry hair with vata and recommends regular oiling (shiro abhyanga) and cooling, moistening hair packs.

Frequently asked questions
How can I control frizzy hair naturally?
- Oil the lengths before washing, use a moisturising mask weekly, rinse with cool water and dry gently. A drop of oil on dry ends also helps in humidity.
Is coconut oil good for frizzy hair?
- Yes, coconut oil is traditionally used as a pre-wash treatment and can reduce protein loss and roughness for many hair types.
Why is my hair frizzy in the monsoon?
- High humidity makes dry, porous hair absorb moisture and swell unevenly. Keeping hair moisturised and sealed helps.
