Warm Foot Soak on Crampy Days

Soak the feet in warm water with rock salt, then rub a little sesame oil on the soles. It is a calming evening habit on crampy days, not a pain treatment.

A wide steel basin of warm water with a small bowl of rock salt and a spoon of sesame oil on a kitchen floor mat.

A foot soak on crampy period evenings

A basin of warm water gives the feet a place to rest when the lower belly feels tight. Rock salt stays in the water, and sesame oil goes on the soles only after you dry the feet. Nothing in this habit is a painkiller.

Ten to fifteen minutes is enough. The water should feel comfortable on the wrist before the feet go in. Severe pain, bleeding that soaks through quickly, or pain with fever is not a soak problem. Get medical care.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon rock salt
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil for the soles after the soak
  • Enough warm water to cover the ankles in a basin

How to prepare

  1. Stir the rock salt into a basin of warm water until it dissolves.
  2. Keep the sesame oil aside for after the soak, not mixed into the water.

How to use

  • Sit safely and soak both feet for 10 to 15 minutes on a crampy day.
  • Dry the feet, then massage a few drops of sesame oil into the soles.
  • Wash the basin. Do not reuse cloudy water.

Helpful habits

  • A chair next to the basin is safer than balancing while you fill it.
  • The oil is only a thin film on dry soles, not a handful.

Precautions

  • Test the water on the wrist so it is warm, not hot.
  • Skip the soak if the feet have open wounds, numbness, or poor feeling.
  • A foot soak does not treat cramps, infection, or heavy bleeding.

Who should skip the foot soak?

Skip it with open wounds, numbness, or poor feeling in the feet, and get care for severe pain or fever.
