Ginger–turmeric tea for achy mornings
Both ginger and turmeric have long been used in Indian kitchens for their warming, soothing qualities. A mild tea made from the fresh roots is a comforting morning drink when joints feel stiff.

Ingredients
- A 1-inch piece of fresh ginger, sliced
- A 1-inch piece of fresh turmeric root, sliced (or ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder)
- A pinch of black pepper
- 2 cups water; a squeeze of lemon
How to prepare
- Simmer the ginger, turmeric and pepper in water for 8–10 minutes.
- Strain, add a squeeze of lemon and drink warm.
How to use
- One cup in the morning, a little after breakfast.
Precautions
- Avoid if you have acidity, gallstones or stomach ulcers.
- Talk to your doctor if you take blood thinners, diabetes medicine or are scheduled for surgery.
- This is a comfort drink, not a replacement for treatment of arthritis or injury.
