Coconut and curry leaf hair oil
A south-Indian family favourite: coconut oil gently warmed with fresh curry leaves. Regular oiling (shiro abhyanga) nourishes the scalp and is deeply relaxing.

Ingredients
- ½ cup pure coconut oil
- A handful (about 20) fresh curry leaves, washed and completely dried
- 1 teaspoon fenugreek seeds (optional)
How to prepare
- Warm the oil in a small pan on low heat.
- Add the curry leaves and fenugreek. Let them sizzle gently until the leaves turn crisp and dark (4–5 minutes). Do not let the oil smoke.
- Cool completely, strain and store in a clean, dry glass bottle.
How to use
- Warm a little oil and massage into the scalp with your fingertips for 5–10 minutes.
- Leave for an hour (or overnight) and wash with a mild shampoo. Use 1–2 times a week.
Precautions
- Make sure the leaves are fully dry — water in hot oil spatters and can burn.
- Patch test on the scalp behind the ear if you have sensitive skin.
- Sudden or patchy hair loss should be checked by a doctor or dermatologist.
